Veterinary Receptionist/AssistantSouth Kendall Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate veterinary assistant/receptionist to serve as the primary point of contact for our clients and their pets. This position plays an integral role in the overall client experience, requiring a professional who can balance administrative precision with genuine warmth across a wide range of interactions — including those of a sensitive or emotionally complex nature.Qualified candidates will bring demonstrated experience managing high-volume front desk operations, a calm and composed presence under pressure, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality customer service in a clinical setting.As you join our mission, expect to be supported in your work and home life with:A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurancePaid time off and a 401(k) plan for full-time employeesProfessional development opportunitiesSchedule: Monday- Friday 8AM-6PM, Every other Saturday 8AM-4pmResponsibilitiesFront Desk & Client CareGreet and check in clients and patients, verify and update medical records, and confirm appointment details using practice management softwareAnswer and manage a multi-line telephone system, responding to inquiries regarding appointment scheduling, prescription refill requests, vaccination records, and general hospital informationPerform client check-out, including processing payments, posting charges, explaining invoices, and scheduling follow-up appointmentsCommunicate medical information, diagnoses, and care instructions accurately and compassionately, including in emotionally sensitive situations such as euthanasia scheduling and end-of-life discussionsMaintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure timely data entry in the veterinary practice information management system (PIMS)Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area and waiting room to ensure a positive client experienceClinical SupportAssist veterinarians and vet technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeriesHandle and restrain animals safely and compassionately, including those that are fearful or reactivePrepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfacesPerform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samplesAdminister medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarianFeed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed, and monitor hospitalized or boarding patients for changes in conditionClean and maintain the clinic, including exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels, and ensure supplies are stockedCoordinate with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to relay client communications, flag urgent cases, and maintain efficient patient flowQualificationsMinimum 1 year of experience working in a veterinary setting, in a receptionist and/or assistant capacity, is requiredExperience with veterinary practice management software; Cornerstone, Avimark, ImproMed, eVetPractice, or ezyVet preferredKnowledge of veterinary medical terminology, vaccination protocols, and basic diagnostic proceduresTechnical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipmentProficiency in appointment scheduling, multi-line phone management, medical records management, and payment processingPhysical ability to handle and restrain animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments safely and compassionatelyProven customer service skills; ability to manage high-volume client relations with composure and accuracyStrong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening and conflict resolutionAbility to move between front-desk and clinical duties throughout the shift as patient flow requiresSouth Kendall Animal Hospital is dedicated to your pets' health and wellbeing.
